Zetacoin

Built on a foundation of innovation and designed to combine transaction speed and ease-of-use, Zetacoin is a true pioneer in the cryptocurrency space. Introduced as a truly innovative digital currency, based on Bitcoin, it was created by a team of anonymous developers and has been in operation since August 3, 2013. The original "Legacy Zetacoin" blockchain was based on SHA256 and featured ultra-fast block times, resulting in significant inefficiencies.

The project was abandoned in 2018 with a small group of enthusiasts and hobbyists maintaining it, but in late 2021, a team led by EWMCI embarked on a long-awaited transformation of Zetacoin. This involved a successful transition to a Scrypt-based, hybrid Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) code that addresses the inefficiencies of the original chain. The new codebase also drastically reduces new annual coin supply to less than 50,000 ZET, addressing the issue of oversupply caused by ongoing SHA256 mining.

Zetacoin is a member of the EWMCI Crypto Ecosystem – a global cryptocurrency platform that focuses on development, infrastructure, and use cases for participating core projects. It is also included in EWMCI Bronze, Stock-to-Flow Stars (due to the recent decrease in new emission) and EWX-18 indices. The Zetacoin network utilizes hybrid PoW and PoS block validation methodology, ensuring enhanced blockchain security while maintaining fast transaction times.

The Zetacoin emission model has been reformed to reflect supply-demand considerations inherent to a fully mature blockchain. This change significantly reduces the probability of a 51% attack and provides an important redundancy by increasing overall blockchain security. The network's energy efficiency is also improved due to the transition from SHA256 to Scrypt, reducing its environmental impact.

Zetacoin has three main ways of acquiring ZET: purchasing with fiat currency using a specialized vendor, exchanging other cryptocurrencies for ZET on platforms such as FreiExchange and Komodo Wallet, or selling goods or services for ZET. The coin can be securely stored in various wallets, including the desktop Qt wallet, state-of-the-art Komodo Wallet, and Gemmer Wallet by Primecoin.
