Velodrome Finance

Built on the Optimism network, Velodrome Finance is a decentralized exchange that serves as the central liquidity hub for the Superchain. Operating as a next-generation Automated Market Maker (AMM), Velodrome combines the best features of Curve, Convex, and Uniswap to deliver low-fee swaps, predictable exchange rates, and efficient liquidity management.

The protocol's innovative flywheel design allows protocols to build deep liquidity in a capital-efficient manner by directing $VELO emissions to their pools. This unique approach enables token swaps and generates fees from traders while attracting liquidity providers (LPs) who receive $VELO token emissions proportionally to the votes each pool receives. The protocol is 100% immutable, ensuring that changes to the mechanics are not supported, and the Minter will distribute tokens based on the same rules in perpetuity.

Velodrome's utility token, $VELO, is distributed to liquidity providers through emissions, while its governance token, $veVELO, is used for voting and decision-making. The protocol has a strong focus on community engagement, with 240M (60%) of $VELO tokens distributed to users who have played a significant role in incubating Velodrome and contributing to its long-term success. Additionally, the protocol has partnered with several notable projects, including Optimism, which received 20M (5%) $veVELO in the initial distribution.

The protocol's version 2, launched on June 22nd, 2023, brings significant improvements, including decentralization, concentrated liquidity support, dynamic fees, and dynamic emissions rates. Velodrome V2 is still 100% immutable and introduces a liquidity pool factory registry, updatable gauges factory, and updatable rewards/incentives factory to enhance performance and user experience.
